Additives are chemical compounds or oil-soluble additives and active ingredients that are added to the base oil. They influence and improve the properties of the oil through their chemical and/or physical effects.

Chemically active additives are: Antioxidants, detergents, dispersants, corrosion inhibitors and anti-wear additives.

Physically acting additives are: Antifoam additives, friction modifiers, pour point improvers and VI improvers.
