How are hydrocra oils produced?
The starting product is the long-chain (solid) normal kerosenes from the dewaxing of raffinates. The kerosene molecules are broken down (cracked) into shorter lubricant molecules in special cracking plants in a hydrogen atmosphere using special catalysts. As a result of the process, mainly branched hydrocarbon chains (isoparaffins) are produced.
